What's on my plate now.

Well, from what the doctors and teachers have told me, basically my son's behavior at school is basically because he doesn't get enough restful sleep at night. As such, we had a neck x-ray done and went to see an ENT, the long and short of it is that he needs his tonsils and adenoids out, he's not getting sufficient oxygen and not getting REM sleep at night. This could explain a lot about him from, well, birth on. He's never slept well and has always been a handful, running around trying to stay awake, he also took 2 naps longer than his peers and just stopped taking a nap around 4 1/2.

So, we're getting his tonsils and adenoids out on 2/16. Hopefully after that I can get back to other things.

Tackle It Tuesday #13 - Getting caught up

Tackle It Tuesday Meme

Well, today's tackle isn't a very interesting one, no pretty pictures either. We have been all over the place since Christmas. If you read last week's tackle, you know that right after Christmas we started prepping for my son's 5th birthday party, well that's now over and since last week was hectic between my DH's car being in the shop Monday & Tuesday, my son's doctor's appointment on Friday and finding homes for all our new toys, I'm spending this week getting caught up and back on schedule. I'm starting with laundry and putting all the dishes/cake decorating stuff away from the party. I finally changed my dishes from Christmas to regular again. So next week, I will have a real tackle with pictures and all, though I'm not sure what it will be yet.

So, this is what I'm doing this week, let us know what you are doing and check out what other Mom's are doing at 5 Minutes for Mom .

And don't forget to celebrate the inauguration of our newest President.

Our medical journey

Well, I remind myself every day that as trying as my son's behaviour, especially in school, is, there very well may be a reason for it. As of right now, it looks like it is because he doesn't get good sleep. Up until Christmas he was getting 11.5 hours of sleep, which time-wise is plenty, but it didn't seem to be restful as he would wake up tired, now he's getting closer to 10.5 - 11 and I'm not sure why he's waking up so early. Oh, and sorry to tell all those doctors out there, when you are asking if a 5 year old wakes up in the night due to apnea, they are usually in their own beds and the baby monitors have been taken out of their rooms (in our case, it would probably still be in there but it broke) so unless the child calls out, we parents don't usually know.

Anyway, we have been going through a lot of doctor visits since my son's visit to the ER in November for an asthma attack. We've been to an allergist, his pediatrician (for the asthma follow-up, a cold he got in December and his annual check up), and now an ENT. The allergist put him on Flonase when we mentioned his waking up tired and that improved it a little, but not 100% so they sent us for a neck xray to check for his adenoids. Turns out his adenoids are ok but his tonsils are enlarged, I'm not really sure why the doctors couldn't see that sooner. So this Thursday we are going to an ENT, he will probably be getting his tonsils out since he has sleep disturbance. I'm nervous about this, and I know it's silly, but I am.

I just wish I could get him back on a normal sleep schedule. He does usually do this either right before or after he has a growth spurt, and he's due - he always sprouts up right after his physical.

Tackle It Tuesday #12 - Birthday Party

Tackle It Tuesday Meme

Well, today's tackle, or rather this week's tackle was my son's 5th birthday party. He will be 5 on Thursday, the 15th. We celebrated his birthday on Sunday so that my parents could attend before heading back down to Florida for the rest of the winter. My biggest tackle was his birthday cakes, yes we had 2 cakes, we had 25 people including us here on Sunday so we needed 2 cakes, the first was a chocolate cake with chocolate icing with a lovely Lego cake topper.

The second cake was a spice cake with white icing which says "Happy Birthday Young Padawan" on it. The light saber in the middle is red because it is my son's favorite color and no matter how many times I told him that only Sith's used red light sabers, he wouldn't budge.

And this is the happy birthday boy.

This is what I tackled this week, what have you tackled, and check out 5 Minutes for Mom to see what other Mom's have done.

Photo Challenge #2 - Macros

So, it took me a bit longer to post my macro challenge. I've been getting ready for my son's birthday party tomorrow and haven't been able to post. Anyway, here are some of my macro shots. I do have to say I had a lot of fun playing with this feature and I will continue to do so.

This first one is our Christmas tree, specifically one of the branches. It would have been better if it was a flowering bush in the spring, but seeing as we have no flowering anything right now, this has to do.

This is one of my son's miniature ornaments on his stocking. I like how the knit pattern of the stocking isn't crisp so the ornament is definitely the focal point.

This is one of my knitting projects, I like how it shows the detail of the knit.

This is some candy canes, it didn't really do what I wanted, I wanted it to focus on the colored candy cane, but because they were all so close together, they all wound up in focus.

This last one is my favorite, it is my son's eyelashes. Not the best macro but I love the picture.

Let me know what you think.

5 Pictures About Me

One of my scrapbooking groups is hosting challenges, the first challenge was to post 5 pictures that represent me.

The first one shows the two most important people in my life, my husband and son.

This shows some other very important people in my life, my family. Family is very important to me, my sisters are my friends, my cousins are my friends. We are all very close.

This is me, my son and my father at the beach. I love the ocean, not a big fan of the sand but my son loves it, so we spend a few weeks every summer at my parents trailer at a campground near Stone Harbor. This is one of my favorite hobbies, knitting. This is a prayer shawl I'm making for one of my cousins who is having surgery soon.

This last shot is of my Vera Bradley backpack that I use as my purse, I bought my first Vera Bradley almost 3 years ago and instantly became addicted.

I will be posting my pictures for the second challenge tomorrow, it's on macros.

Tackle It Tuesday #11

Tackle It Tuesday Meme

Well, my son's 5th birthday is coming up next Thursday (the 15th), and we are having a small party for him here on Sunday. So my tackle, once again without pictures, is to clean the house put away all our Christmas decorations and find homes for the ton of toys he got for Christmas. OK, so I haven't really tackled all of that yet but it's my project for the week, so I will post some pictures during the week.

What I have accomplished is making phone calls for everything I needed to do, portrait appointment, get his allergist to call in a refill on his Asthma inhaler that he uses daily, call my husband's grandmother since we haven't seen her for Christmas yet, make his yearly doctor appointment and call same doctor to get a referral for his allergist appointment on Thursday.

I also made my New Year's Resolutions and have actually started on them. We got a Wii from my parents for Christmas and I bought Wii Fit/Balance Board with my birthday money so I've been doing the different activities on that mostly every day, I can tell you that if you are as out of shape as I am, these activities will kick your butt. I try to do at least 30 minutes per day of the different activities on Wii Fit and I'm doing pretty ok with it, I need to make sure I do it on the weekends too to keep getting better.

So this is what I have/am tackling this week, let us know what you are tackling and then head on over to 5 Minutes for Mom to see what other bloggers are tackling.

Happy New Years!

Well, I would have blogged yesterday, but, well I wasn't home. Every year my family, my parents and sisters & families get together for brunch, this year we went back to my older sister's after to celebrate her baby's 14th birthday (which was on Dec. 29) and then my Dad and hubby went out to get us new cell phones and to add my parents on to our plan so they'd have texting - a very important feature when they travel between NJ and FL two times a year (so 4 trips). Needless to say, we left here around 10 and didn't make it home until dinner time.

Anyway, I decided to make New Year's Resolutions this year, I don't usually do this, but I figured I need to make some kind of declaration on the changes I want to make in my life.

These are the resolutions I made:

1. To weigh less at the beginning of each month than I did the month before.
2. Lessen clutter by at least 25%
3. Blog 3-5 days per week consistently (so the few readers I do have will have more drivel to read)
4. Make a healthy dinner every night for the whole family (I know this one sounds weird as I'm a SAHM, but I'm a vegetarian, my son and husband aren't so we've kind of been eating separate meals, but this year I'm going to change that).

I will update monthly on my progress if anyone cares to read about it, but by doing that I have to make progress.

Have a happy, healthy new year!
